Una escuela del condado de Jackson retira la mascota en medio de acusaciones de racismo

La mascota de una escuela del condado de Jackson ha sido retirada debido a acusaciones de representar el racismo.

"The Rebel" ha sido la mascota de la escuela Cullowhee Valley desde la década de 1950. El otoño pasado, se inició una petición para retirar la mascota, obteniendo más de 900 firmas.

Annie McCord-Wilson, fue parte del grupo que inició la petición, habló con WLOS diciendo que la mascota era "ofensiva" y "un símbolo de odio."

La Junta Escolar del Condado de Jackson votó unánimemente a favor de retirar a la figura de inspiración confederada de una década de antigüedad.

La junta escolar aprobó permitir que los estudiantes elijan la nueva mascota.
